Homestuck Re-read Part 22: I have spent like 3 days trying to implement lua scripting in go and It is having severe repercussions on my self confidence so I am going to do my Homestuck upd8 now in order to distract myself before I give up because it turns out that there is a popular embedded javascript library with nicer developer ergonomics I can use instead.
I decided to have a run-on title instead of an introductory paragraph today. I am again not feeling great. ;_;
There is 127 pages in today's upd8. Let's get started.
Homestuck
Last time Aradia was talking about trying to get even with Vriska over injuring Tavros with Terezi trying to talk her down. But that's not going to happen. Aradia is going to Make her pay. Reprisal is fast.
We are now the white text guy. AKA D
Vision 8fold allows her to see through the opaque shell and gain the wisdom that is inside moments before it makes itself known. Vriska looses 7 eyes but Terezi still has 2, there are moves left to play in the match before a stalemate is declared.
Here's a little segment I'm just gonna copy and paste that I wrote to someone on discord and thought might make a good addition here after.
It's so viscerally weird re-reading the parts with Vriska as an adult this time.
- She is Worse then I remember her being. Not even just in the like, the background lore of her being essentially a mass murderer but even on an interpersonal level
- She is so much more, abusive and manipulative then I remember as well. She makes herself out to be the victim when criticized for her actions and acts like people are dismissing genuine attempts to make amends while, not making them and actively antagonizing people sometimes not even subtly
- I do genuinely feel bad for her in a way I didn't before because, this was
- Essentially predestined
- the result of Alternian culture being Fucked Up and her lusus training her to be like that and Doc Scratch manipulating her, but it's also clear she isn't entirely innocent and wanted to do A Lot Of It
- they're all still, literally teenagers. This is essentially just the Alternian equivalent of saying something you cant take back when you're 13 for the first time except shes killed someone, injured two more and turned someone into a murderer
There is so much going on with Equius and I am not entirely sure how to comment on it.
He does bring Aradia her new robot body to contain her soul, where she becomes ARADIABOT. We then get to see entirety of her ghost-lifetime's unfelt emotions come out as anger. She rips her own heart out and smashes it to pieces. And then smashes Equius. Entirely , entirely justified as both anger and feelings of betrayal. A little later we will be introduced to troll romance, and the kiss that ended it might make a bit of sense.
Oh hey it's Jack again. I love that guy. He stabbed that Karkat fella and now hes being all pissy-moany about his blood colour being weird its just the normal red blood though so like what's his problem. We even got the same blood, maybe that'll cheer him up.
Blood brothers. We finally learn the reason for the frog temple being used for Aradia's first kernelsprite prototyping, it forced the black queen to remove her ring out of indignity. Operation regisurp lead to her eventual exile and a new employment opportunity.
Actual Kanaya introduction time! Yaaaaaay! She's fashionable and a day person! Oh!! I wasn't expecting this but we even get the first conversation with Feferi! She's so sweet and also seems to have some form of future knowledge that is closer to the horrorterrors of the furthest ring then the clouds of skaia. Unlike Kanaya who is an awake propsitian.
Kanaya extracts a matriorb from her dead lusus; the virgin mothergrub.
We see Kanaya's alternative source of information, something we are familiar with already. It's Rose's GameFAQs page, cast deep into paradox space.
I feel so bad for Tavros. Regardless of any like, new feelings towards Vriska it's still upsetting to see her abuse him, regardless of how much of her desire to treat her like that is from malevolent outside forces. She does give him a gift though, but we've seen how rockets worked out before. Hopefully this has a happy ending.
Thank you all for joining me for a night of Homestuck
